UI/UX designer

The primary goal of a UI/UX designer isn't to make users happy. It isn't to make users laugh or incite emotion of any kind. It's not personal. It's certainly not a personal platform to show the world "How things should actually be designed". If it's not any of these things, and yes they are all worthwhile goals in their own right, then what is it?

Make users effective without them even knowing it.

Great design is a funny thing. We all notice bad design. Some of us may remark upon particularly good design, "Look Morty we're in the graphic design dimension". But how many times have you sat back from your computer, kicked off your shoes and called your mother to say "Wow, that design is so good I didn't even notice it".

A great UI designer is the invisible hand who corrects the market. She is the serendipity who helps the little girl cross the busy street. He is the wise old grandfather, full of lessons, who is never teaching. They are the grandchildren who help Great Aunt June with her first Facebook update. Are you this invisible hand who makes users effective? Helps them achieve what they can came to achieve? Makes them appear to be techsperts in front of their friends?

Read up! Because we are looking for a senior UI/UX designer who can give our users a beautiful experience. So beautiful they won't even know they are experiencing it.

The ideal candidate should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior UI skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artefacts and transform them into beautiful, intuitive, and functional user interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with product management and engineering to define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience

  • Executing all visual design stages from concept to final hand-off to engineering

  • Conceptualising original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex design roadblocks

  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas

  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders

  • Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback

  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, or related

  • Proven UI experience

  • Demonstrable UI design skills with a strong portfolio

  • Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and sitemaps

  • Proficiency in the Adobe design suite, OmniGraffle, InVision or other visual design and wireframing tools

  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping.

  • Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction

  • Ability to present your designs and sell your solutions to various stakeholders

  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively

  • Up-to-date with the latest UI trends, techniques, and technologies

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
